Still a little early for warbler numbers, today's bird with honors was the Black and White Warbler. 6 BWWA seen from my early walk:1 at the Esdale Bridge south side, 2 at the Tennis House, 3 inside the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Native Flora section. The Ambergill creek on the south side of the Ravine entrance--the Esdale Bridge-- has a eddy type slow water spot that birds are attracted to, on the right side about 50 feet from the bridge.Here also among bathing robins, also American Redstart and NorthernWaterthush, albeit a quick look,disappeared into the aquatics.A great spot for a big sit (staying still at one location). And also, a single Yellow Warbler on the Upper Pool's Island, right above 4 hidden Wood Ducks.

August 6th Prospect
Most active location was the open area (marked by temporary white snow fence) on the west end of Nethermead Arches Bridge, by the path this morning. Hi lighted by a surprising low perched GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER, I also saw two CAROLINA WRENS, one chased later by one of two bright male adult BALTIMORE ORIOLES. Seconds later, one oriole also chased a WARBLING VIREO, upslope abit, behind the fallen tree root. For a very busy day watering, ( including that spot) , a delight to take it all in with the good birds there at that locale ( which I hope to turn into a wildflower meadow ...in time)
and as usual , the ever reliable FORSTER'S TERNS --4 seen -- on the Lake this afternoon after work. WE can't get rid of these guys ! ( wink wink)

What you can do to save Ridgewood Reservoir
About a month ago , I sent out a note about Ridgewood Reservoir coming under review by the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation for wetland protection. We have a chance as a concerned birding community to save a critical habitat from destruction for sports fields by the NYC Parks department.
NYC Audubon created a form letter ( if letter writing isn't your strong suit) you can use to copy and paste unto a Microsoft word document ( or similar software) and mail. Its that simple. Our appreciation to NYC Audubon for coming up with the form letter.See the link above.
We do need to save this wonderful place on the north Brooklyn border.

This morning , while I was weed removing Paper Mulberry, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER flushed from the shore unto the black plastic covering the phragmites along the road from the rink concert grove towards Terrace bridge
After work , I noted 7 FORSTER's TERNS , 6 immatures perched on the boat canopy, ( one happy family obviously or is it a rooftop teenager party ??) while an adult flew around the perimeter of Duck Island; I enjoyed watching the adult dive bomb the water surface, successful a few times with captured fish ( more like minnows).It's been quite a summer regarding the Forster Tern, soon to depart beginning in mid-August for southern migration
