September 1st, Prospect Park

The continuing northerly winds favored the birds as most from yesterday kept on going last night. The activity today was obviously less noticeable. Nevertheless, given patience, some delights were experienced.

Word i received was some habitat pockets were active, most notably in the Vale of Cashmere and earlier Lookout Hill's Butterfly Meadow, according to Scott Whittle. Hopefully, a list soon on his observations.

On my own limited time, my best sighting occurred next to the Tunnel Arch stairs, at the west Battle Pass "pothole basin".There a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO landed on a branch; minutes later , it flew up the slope unto another branch in a tree next to the top of the stairs. Later, in search of the cuckoo, with Scott , we both saw YELLOW-THROATED VIREO in the tree canopy, and lower down in mid story, three female/immature male SCARLET TANAGERS on the Battle Pass hill.In the afternoon, I found BLUE-WINGED WARBLER at the cuckoo spot, making this locale a most enticing spot!

During my lunch hour, i birded Butterfly Meadow with Kathy Toomey. Our best sightings within the slow period were NASHVILLE, NORTHERN PARULA and a female WILSON'S WARBLERs. It made up "boredom" of few birds seen, despite an energetic bunch of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES making butterfly meadow their domain.
