August 29th Prospect Park

Hilights include WORM-EATING WARBLER, evening COMMON NIGHTHAWKS (8 sightings)

Despite the persistent rain, a good morning in PP, mostly around Lookout Hill. Highlights included Worm-Eating Warbler, Veery and a probable Yellow-bellied Flycatcher):

During an evening Brooklyn Bird Club picnic on the rise south of the Tennis House, we spotted 8 sightings of COMMON NIGHTHAWK between 6 and 8 pm. Likely 2-4 birds, nevetheless, some sightings were low enough to see the white wing patches under overcast skies. MOst times the birds flew over the Pools towards the Quaker Ridge from the Tennis HOuse spot and along that forest line.

Kingsboider note:

Sunday eve (north winds) would be a very good opportunity to watch the sky for Common Nighthawks. Station your self at the tennis house south slope/rise and watch the sky over the Upper and Lower Pools perimeter. Another great spot i found productive is the Nethermead, station yourself at the south end of the meadow by the middle lawn triangle and watch the tree lines and above. Best time is after 6 pm- 8 pm
