January 23rd sightings

It's pretty cool to see a winter duck get all comfy on Prospect Lake. For the past week, since last Saturday, a handsome drake Common Merganser has been staying put in the middle of the lake, near Three Sisters Islands, where currently the only open water is. You would be able to pick out the mostly white bodied large duck, sometimes sitting on the ice. Wintertime doesn't always offer numbers but special visitors get the most of our attention..Sometimes, the adage applies: "the fewer the better"
