South winds the past few days makes birding tough, and slim pickings the norm.But we lucked in with a nice little spurt around Butterfly Meadow and scattered sightings in mostly the south half of the park on the Brooklyn Bird Club Walk. Those highlights include HOODED WARBLER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, BLACKPOLL and PINE WARBLER among the best for the BBC walk. With only a few birders left, I spotted NASHVILLE WARBLER at the Falkill Falls by the rotted bridge.But it was elusive, sparing only a few seconds look.
A report independently from Keir Randall for OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, and SCARLET TANAGER from Gayle and Xandra added support for a decent day.
For Hooded Warbler, first seen in the pokeweed by Mary , was only observed by a few birders in the group; the same for Yellow-bellied Flycatcher seen at Lamppost #249, only seen by a few.Its typical of fall birding when you have to contend with dense foliage.
Other enjoyable sights include a flyover 7 Great Egrets over the Lookout Hill summit.
Northwest wind after midnight but a soggy one with it....bring a raincoat.
