Prospect January 2nd

Strong winds and descending chill imposes its winter aura as I took a walk in the late afternoon. ( good to sleep in a little late on a holiday). The best of what I saw was a mixed pair of HOODED MERGANSERS sailing around at the south side of the Terrace Bridge,in proximate view and outstanding looks. With the winds a factor, most passerines hunkered down which I expected.

Raptors of the day are two MERLIN over Quaker Ridge south reported by Matthew Wills. Good winter birds to watch. Maybe with the arctic winds into Tuesday will bring in those arctic species.Bundle up and try to look ...

On another but disappointing note in case anyone wants to tell me,the feeders are wrecked -- THANKS to the brazen squirrels.I have to tear down the old ( Like the new year : out the old, in with the new) set up a new gimmick...Maybe by end of the week as work time allows me free time...for now ,no new seed refills..
