Yellow Throated Warbler ;4/22 sightings

A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was seen at 6:05 pm just west of the West Island rustic lakeside shelter in the southwest sector of Prospect Park, last seen in oaks across the traffic Lakeside Drive. First seen in early afternoon by Edith Goren and Isabelle Conte on the south mainland behind Three Sisters Islands, it moved along the west shore where it was seen in the early evening by me and Scott Whittle about 150 feet west of the lakeside wooden shelter /gazebo.

After a short disappearance, Rob Jett refound the bird near the Vanderbilt Street playground. Apparently, the YTWA is moving among oaks between the playground and the shelter but frequenting mostly the oaks south or near the loop in drive off the main drive about 300 feet directly west of the small wooden lakeside shelter.

To get here, enter Vanderbilt Street park entrance ,go right , or if Greenwood St park entrance , turn left .
You 'll see the lakeside shelter ahead. Last seen, the YTWA was in the oaks before the park drive. It was also in trees by the Gingko Trees , by me and Scott. The nearest train is the  F line to Fort Hamilton Parkway, after exiting , walk 2 blocks east to Prospect Park.

For a map, go to the www.Brooklynbirdclub.org homepage, click on Prospect Sightings ( my blog)  and on the left sidebar, click on the Prospect Park Map. look in the area lower left near Park Circle entrance for West Island vicinity.

Observers:Edith Goren and Isabelle Conte (original observers early pm ),later, Peter Dorosh, Scott Whittle, Rob Jett, Eddie Davis, Ed Crowne, Shane Blodgett

1 Red breasted nuthatch - Lullwater trail

Red winged blackbirds - male & female
Observed a White breasted nuthatch on Peninsula trail - it had a white feather in its bill and was "dusting" the area around a nest hole in a tree. It went into the hole with the feather several times before leaving it there. Was this to scare up insects to eat? (or just spring cleaning ?)
