I am very pleased to announce that the final total raised in
support of the Prospect Park Restoration site at the Vale
of Cashmere amounted to 67 separate gifts for a total of
$3,969.39. This broke our previous year's total of $3800.00
Sorry for the delay in announcing it but pledges were still
coming in which I received final confirmation a day ago
from the Prospect Park Alliance gifts manager.
Donors contributed towards the restoration of an area
that is weed infested and shaded with invasive Norway
and Sycamore Maples. These will be removed based on
an assessment with the Prospect Park Natural
Resources staff and planting appropriate types of high
wildlife valued native plants in celebration of the Brooklyn
Bird Club Centennial this year. The birth of the club had its
beginnings with the first two presidents meeting near this
site in fall 1908.
Two teams participated birding only the borough of
Brooklyn. 125 bird species were seen. The list is accessed
from the Prospect Park sightings blog side menu "BBC Past
field trips" (see www.brooklynbirdclub.org)
