From Rob Jett:
At approximately 11am a Philadelphia Vireo was seen in Prospect Park.
The cooperative bird was seen in great light as it fed on the berries
of an Arrowwood Viburnum adjacent to the Binnen Bridge. It left the
shrub but returned several times over a period of about 15 minutes.
The Binnen Bridge is the wooden bridge that overlooks the Lily Pond to
the north and the Nature center to the south. This is in the same
general area as the one reported by Shane Blodgett earlier in the week.
Here's the GPS for the bridge:
40°39'42.32"N
73°57'58.51"W ( copy and paste the coordinates into Google Maps search window)
Good birding,
Rob

From Marisa Wohl on Philadelphia Vireo:
The Philadelphia vireo reported by the Binnen Bridge in Prospect Park
was present at 4 pm today. I first saw the bird briefly from
the other wooden bridge over the Binnen Water northwest of the
Pagoda Pond. (This despite a well attended disco party at the Pagoda
Pond). With a birder named Sam I moved to the bridge between the
Lily Pond and Audubon Center. We saw the bird moving actively among
the vegetation on both sides of the bridge, returning several times to
feed on the dark blue vibernum berries. The rapid movement, dense
vegetation and poor light made it hard to get sustained looks. When
the bird started favoring the trees next to the pond on the southeast
side of bridge, I got better views, and realized I had been watching
not one, but two, exceedingly active Philadelphia vireos, making it a
double lifer, I guess. (Congrats again to Sam on a single lifer).

Hi Peter,
Today (Sun the 14th) I saw and photographed a male Canada Warbler in
Prospect behind the Lily Pond.
