11/16 reports inc Red-Throated Loon

More commonly seen on coastal waters but rare to see based in a city lake, I found a Red-throated Loon this morning on Prospect Lake between West Island and Three Sister Islands.Word went out and subsequent reports followed the loon drifting all along the south shore , behind Duck Island until the Red-throated Loon did a "U" Turn at the Terrace Bridge in the south Lullwater, where a number of us watched the bird --at one point- only 20 feet from us. For a quite reliable sighting elsewhere, in Prospect park, its a good quality "park lister" .

Last report , the loon was found nearer West Island, seen from the benches there, the loon out farther on the lake.

Good birding
