11/19 " Boy, its cold out there ..but the good stuff rolls in.."

Highlights for this day: Orange-crowned Warbler, Horned Lark, Pine Siskin, continuing Red-throated Loon,American Tree Sparrow, a marooned Raccoon?

From Alex Wilson:

There were a good variety of late-season birds on hand today in Prospect Park, a sharp drop in temperature notwithstanding. An ORANGE- CROWNED WARBLER near the Lily Pond was perhaps the “best” of the day, but the continuing RED-THROATED LOON and a single HORNED LARK on the Long Meadow are actually rarer for the location and both were new park birds for me. Also uncommon for Prospect were an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and one PINE SISKIN among many Goldfinch.

On another note, I’ll be leading a bird walk this Saturday, 11/22 as part of a performance art event drawing attention to Calvert Vaux/ Dreier-Offerman Park, a project by Brooklyn artist Dillon de Give. Further information on this all-ages event is available at:http://www.implausibot.com/bird.html

From Rob Bate:

Peter,I saw the RTLoon but none of the other rarities. I did spot a Blue Headed Vireo in the pennisula meadow, I assume that is an out of season bird. Thanks for the tips. Rob

From Peter:

A highlight for me was a Raccoon looking right at me from the middle island of Three Sisters Islands as I walked home from work. First I've seen on the islands. Hope he has a boat, the water must be frigid.....
