Easter Morning Prospect April 4th

Rambling birdsong pierced this holiday morning , with enveloping early foggy mist burned off by mid-morning. As is usually my personal tradition, the Easter sunrise was obviously obscured,so I slept another hour instead of a very early start watching the sunrise over the lake. A slow start, yet things picked up through the hours. My first sightings of LAUGHING GULL (P.Dorosh)was first a flyover at Lamppost #249; however, one floated on the lake .Excellent reports afield of PINE WARBLER numbers (particularly Lookout Hill by the First Sunday Group led by Eni Falci); ORANGE-Crowned Warbler (Keir Randall) reported at Nethermead Arches north stairs sounds like this winter rarity is finally moving on after a long hiatus in the Lullwater.[ OCWA is very rare spring migrant] A report of Rusty Blackbird at the Ravine Pool (Rafael Campos), Chipping Sparrows on the Nethermead northwest field, Palm Warblers along the back path behind Upper Pool ; Besides Chipping, sparrow diversity is newsworthy with also Swamp,Savannah , Song, White-throated ,Dark-eyed Junco,Field & Eastern Towhee among today's observed sparrow species totaling 8 ; and a five- woodpecker species milestone reported by Michele Dreger in the First Sunday Group also made the notable hilights.

A warm spell predicted to reach the low 80's this week is a good sign for migration numbers to pick up ( we hope). Enjoy your holiday and this early week's offerings of birds.

No much difference between yesterday & today at PP. Palm & Pine Warblers were common sight around the pools, and also at the lower Lullwater. The lake, not much, and Midwood, Ravine, the meadows, not much action either. But, before I left PP, near the Ambergill Falls, I saw 1 Rusty Blackbird singing. It was a very nice surprise. From Elyse Taylor:

Hi Peter,
I also saw a yellow rump warbler on lookout hill after I saw you and the group of birders
at the upper pool. There were also a good amount of pine warblers, and a few palm warblers there.
Good birding,
Elyse
