Oct 20th Prospect; blustery day

From yesterday's rainy day to today's blustery day, hopefully tomorrow a "sunny" day. Today's strong winds impacted birding, as birds usually hunker down. With sparrow numbers way down for puzzling reasons this season, birders do the best with whatever conditions.

With whatever sparrows around, the best in the "field" as follows:In the fence enclosure at Sparrowbowl ( Tennis House north), about 12 CHIPPING SPARROWS spooked easily by a high school racing competition after I left work .They mostly perched in the mesh fencing. An even better observation, two FIELD SPARROWS right behind the East Wood Arch building, along the upper path or next to that low roof building by the boathouse. SWAMP SPARROWS were spotted in several places, including the weedy field adjacent & west of Binnen Bridge.

A report from Larry revealed a few nice warblers : PINE, NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN , a late bird and NORTHERN PARULA; on the latter , Eni Falci reported several Parulas

The wind must have driven down Wood Ducks. From the west lake shore, I spotted inside the Three Sister strait or in front , 11 WOOD DUCKS. Nearby the assortment of RUDDY and NORTHERN SHOVELERS were the best right now.

From Larry:

Peter,
Good to see you this morning. Activity picked up later on, especially at the Sparrow Bowl and the Vale.
