Prospect October 12th, Vespers for good birds and ducks..

The VESPER SPARROW
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Vesper_Sparrow/id )  hung over --at least one of them-- from yesterday's 2 seen at the Sparrowbowl; today's location for this quality sparrow was the Ballfield's north snow fence enclosure. Rob Jett refound the bird, and I found at lunchtime lingering at the west side fence of that enclosure, before the bird flew out to a nearby tree adjacent to field number three. It was tough to see in the high grass, my identification based on the white tail retrices and streaky body.

A late afternoon report from Alex Wilson highlights some nice variety of waterfowl and a quality wren along the water , specifically the Peninsula lakeshore. On the latter, MARSH WREN is a good one, rare for Prospect, maybe 1-2 seen yearly in these parts.

On the lake or waterways, 9 species duck means a good day at this early date. The best  were GREEN-WINGED TEAL , GADWALL, AMERICAN WIGEON, WOOD DUCK for tops. But the best surprise was not on water for this water bird but overhead, a flyby COMMON LOON over Long Meadow. I guess those loons are on the move as well..
