February 21st, Prospect + BBG

Hilights : AMERICAN PIPIT inside extreme east corner snow covered ballfields within fence enclosure, look for exposed ground ; "return of the Grackle"

Today's observation during a Brooklyn Bird Club walk is an early omen of spring, Common Grackles, a noted early migrant, seen as a small flock adjacent to the Terrace Bridge. Also noted for spring signs was two Red-tailed Hawks seen copulating adjacent to the Battle Pass, before the male flew off to a tree holding last year's nest. Merlin perched calmly and beautifully at Quaker Ridge Center Drive, Cedar Waxwings at Terrace Bridge, joining with the starlings and robins for a frenzied ground forage. A very nice day to counter "cabin fever" and enjoy what was out there, regardless whatever.
