Three recent species seen in Prospect invoke very interesting historical mentions regarding Prospect records : Fox Sparrow, Blackpoll Warbler and Little Blue Heron.
For Fox Sparrow (4/26 , P.Dorosh) seen on the south Lakeside, the LATEST spring sighting was the latest since April 28 , 1969 and April 29- 30 ,1965 sightings, the latter the latest Spring record.
For Blackpoll Warbler, only 3 records before May 1st , those 3 pre May sightings occurring in 2009. There are a number of sporadic records but very few occurring on May 1st and May 2nd. Yesterday's (numerous quantity per Tom S.) and Saturday's 2 Blackpoll (S.Nanz) is very unusual, nevetheless.
Little Blue Heron is still very rare for Prospect ( though yesterday --off the top of my head-- I thought was less than 5 ever is incorrect.Blame it on recent information overload ;)> ), only 11 historically (since 1915) before Sundays' sighting. Yesterday's sighting is likely the 12th record, depending in older records whether a single bird overstayed or like the place alot to come back in the fall...
