Floyd Bennett Field's future

Very rarely do I ever post anything out of the ordinary outside the sphere for this blog I cover for birds but I want to bring your urgent attention to this matter that affects a famous birding location close to the heart of Brooklyn birders and their neighboring birders as well.

Go to these links below to see what entails for Floyd Bennett . Over the years , recreational activities and increase in cars and motorcycle traffic have diminished Floyd Bennett's value as well as a threat to the last remaining extensive grasslands in Brooklyn. The creation of Aviation Sports complex from a year ago simply opened the door for possibly more development. "give an inch, they will want a mile".  Read on and hopefully  you will be able to attend the critical 9/21 meeting.A high turnout by birders and preservationists will do wonders ..It is everyone's concern and your preserve as well before the Blue Ribbon Panel gets any ideas for more maybe baseball fields ?

If anyone who doesn't know, Floyd Bennett is a decommissioned airport that was turned over to Gateway Park ( under National Park Service)  . It is a terrific birding area for grassland species and raptors , especially in the winter. It sits at the end of Flatbush Ave , just before the Marine Park Bridge.
