The Kingsboider word: Migration stalled today early on from yesterday's northerly front for numbers, but picked up steam from various reports I received thru the day.Several quality ones so far as I heard and read...latest after various reports I read looks like today was a really terrifc day with hard earned effort from several birders....see the reports below. Its a looker!
Kingsboider note: latest report is 15-16 species warbler today for both PP and BBG by cumulative effort... I am too tired to count after tonights Cyclones game.
Broadwinged Hawk was reported by Rob Bate at about 9:55 am over the Wellhouse
Tenneessee Warbler reported by Rob Jett at Lily Pool just before 3pm.
Alex Wilson reported 12 species warblers in his morning walk. But later when he emailed me, BOBOLINK and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER raises the stakes.
I had the pleasure of seeing a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER bathing , at times just sitting in the water in the Ambergill creek on the south side of the Ravine's Esdale Bridge. Then a CANADA WARBLER walked right by it. That occurred about 8 ish. There were at least 3 Canada's I saw thruout the morning while busy working.
Orrin Tilevitz BBGarden walk included Great Crested FC and Nashville Warbler.
Mary Eyster reported singing CAROLINA WREN in her northern Windsor Terrace backyard.
Eddie reports Scarlet Tanager.
And this morning when I was about to take off in the golf cart at work ( the Rink) , I saw an AMERICAN KESTREL male fly unto a electric cord hung between the floodlight towers, but it teetered so much on the shaky wire, it took off for one of the light towers at the rink. Then it flew right after and chased a Northern Flicker. In that same area generally, in trees by the rink cove , at least 8 Eastern Kingbirds in one tree, general evidence that this species is staging for southern calling....
Weekend is looking good but Sunday noon and on into the afternoon in Prospect's Nethermead should be avoided if you intend to bird beyond midmoring. It's a Michael Jackson deejay concert event , and crowds will be predictably large. Bird early . Hot temperatures are predicted so that might be a factor unless cool areas ( near water i.e) are birded.

From Rafael Campos: (in 5:30 email)
Probably 1 hr ago, I heard some bird noises, quite different for this quiet block in Park Slope.
The squawking was coming from a tall oak tree in the backyard. After a search around the foliage, I found at least 2 Monk Parakeets, perched. This is the first time I see this sps in our backyard. It became our #88 sps for the backyard-list.
Other notables were: 1 Chestnut-sided Warbler, 1 male Northern Cardinal, & 1 Blue Jay.
Brooklyn is good birding: Rafa Campos R.
2nd report
27 August 2010
Just few minutes, an Empidonax sps flycatcher came to the Holly tree in the backyard.
After seeing it for at least 5 minutes, and checking all the potentials field marks, I came with the ID: Acadian Flycatcher.
This represent sps #89 to our backyard list.
Brooklyn is great birding, even your own backyards: Rafa Campos R.
