When growing up a child in the Wallabout section of Brooklyn --this near the Brooklyn Navy Yard and almost under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway--my mother would always come fetch me to see the beautiful BLUE JAY in my backyard. This was big for me, for we never get anything so "spectacular " in my nondescript yard.
So memories come back abit when this morning, I saw 5 BLUE JAYS together behind the fence at Lamppost 249 picnic tables, sort of a "gathering" as this holiday of Christmas we celebrate symbolizes, whether with friends, family or strangers. Blue Jays are spectacular birds, given its variety of bluish colors if you look close at its feathers. Its a common species but how hard are we really looking and appreciating the gift this bird represents ? For me, it never ends, the wonderment some species give with its beauty even if not a rarity.
Today , BLACK&WHITE WARBLER at the front of the Binnen Pool and COMMON GRACKLE was seen at the feeders offers the best sightings on this Xmas eve day..OH Yes !...those gorgeous Blue Jays too....
Have a wonderful holiday !
