Today's best bird (in the park , that is) was ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER spotted by Russ Alderson at the Peninsula Sumacs, near the water fountain.
The BLACK & WHITE WARBLER continues, seen along the Binnen Water just below the Nethermead Bridge , on the Bridle trail ( Bobbie Manian) at noon.
Continuing the warblers, getting better all the time was seen in a very unusual place. Rob Bate reported a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in his backyard ! His home is near Flatbush Ave and Parkside Ave. Last I heard was he is trying to convince it "GO WEST, young Bird " ( Of course, "west" is where Prospect Park is)
On a non avian note: I spotted a RED BAT flying circles above the Maryland Monument, pretty late for the species but with all this mild weather, perhaps it was spurred on. Just the right color though for the Xmas season.
The Lake did yield a few notables with only 2 Northern Shovelers and 3 HOODED MERGANSERS , two drakes courting the hen in front of Three Sisters Islands.
A Sharp-shinned Hawk was spotted at the north slope of Lookout Hill ( facing the Nethermead).
