April 30th..the rarity express continues to roll in Prospect

(Photo credit :Tom Stephenson ; Todays bird of the day: RHWP)

(Kingsboider note: this report was delayed due to a Brooklyn Bird Club presentation i had to host tonight at the Litchfield Villa)

This last day of April goes out with style, with a report from Nancy Tim's 7 am field walk for the Brooklyn Bird Club. With help from Tom Stephenson, Nancy caught sight of the best non-warbler species, an adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER on lower Quaker Ridge just south of the Lower Pool, more specifically above Rocky Pass, the cut thru the ridge on the road going north from the Nethermead Bridge( sorry for the incorrect info previously on the cell phone report, i was not given the locale cause the landmarks in Prospect can be quite confusing). Additional rarities regarding warblers were two CERULEAN WARBLERS in the Midwood, one bird chased by a HOODED WARBLER! The PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen in an unlikely spot, way high in a Oak tree in the Midwood. (Stephenson, Jett)

Other hilights include Rafael's Worm-Eating Warbler in the Ravine, 8 Northern Rough -winged Swallows seen by Rob , the Lake, Indigo Bunting, 5 Orchard Oriole

List from Rafael.

With the news of 1 Red-headed Woodpecker around PP, I headed there, but no luck with such bird, and others posted early today (eg Cerulean Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler).
Looking for these rares ones, I found 1 Worm-eating Warbler high on an oak tree in the Ravine. Later around Vale, a nice pair of Scarlet Tanagers, and a nice male Black-throated Blue Warbler.
One Warbling Vireo was singing its heart out near the Nethermead Arches Bridge.
