A "Good Friday" Prospect April 6th

First , Happy Passover and Good Friday to those celebrating the faith and holidays.

A nice day today weather wise but busy for me with Lakeshore Rink plants ( Ball & burlaps)  transporting and placements  &  then services at 3pm. So it wasn't until 5pm I was able to get out to bird Prospect. For two hours birding, a satisfactory birding outing.

The best observation was a stooping BROAD-WINGED HAWK with its diagnostic dark wing borders over the Butterfly Meadow around 6 :10 pm, on a dive down southern slope. A good number of HERMIT THRUSHES on the big hill as well as several PALM WARBLERS which was prominently reported by Rafael as well today. One WINTER WREN along the top path leading to Maryland Monument stairs.

See also Rafael and Kathy's reports on their more extensive outing early in the day. Rafael and Kathy reported Towhee and Rafael had FIELD SPARROW in the Peninsula meadow.Sparrows look good today

One last note in the Herons department. I could count as best as I could 6 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS on Three Sisters Island from my southern lake shore vantage. There was a Great Blue Heron farther inside. But on Duck Island, 2 Great Blues perched on a fallen timber in the water. No mistaking that.
