Prospect /GWC reports April 15th

A little bit of a downer with expectations for good numbers with the current southern wind flow, bird numbers or diversity was not that high today especially for warblers and so on. A case in point for surprises, no Blue-gray Gnatcatchers for example despite my spending a great amount of time birding after a two day wedding hiatus the past two days for my niece in northern Delaware.

But there were  some new species for the year i gathered from birders I ran into. Tops were WHITE-EYED VIREO seen at the upper path southern slope Lookout Hill and NASHVILLE WARBLER at Ricks Place ( Ascher, Dyer); an OVENBIRD "foy" spotted in the Midwood ( Hrehowsik, Manian, Markman) ) and LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH noted at three different venues --a triple location or hat trick bird: Greenwood Cemetery's Dell water ( Dorosh); Vale of Cashmere pool ( Keim) & Ravine ( Ascher, Dyer) ; Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Japanese Garden stream ( Bate). Also add in GRAY CATBIRD ( Wills), FIELD Sparrow (Dyer) and late word BG GNATCATCHER (Ascher)

A flyover Peregrine Falcon over Butterfly Meadow was a noted sighting in the very slow doldrum late afternoon.

Below is a master list with denotations for both Prospect and Greenwood Cemetery ( GWC)

From Matthew :

Crack of dawn patrol revealed only two species warblers this morning; lots of Palm on Peninsula. White-throated sparrows everywhere. Two birders sent me to a Savannah Sparrow, turned out to be two of them, one very yellow. FOS Catbird. A trio of Towees. Male of pair of Tufted Titmouse on berm near GAP feeding female, probable nesters?

Although bone dry, area of erstwhile mud puddle on bridle path between Rick's Place and Boulder Bridge very productive last two days with elm seeds good pickings.
