Prospect weekend April 29th

Spring birding drags its feet with the
cold snap holding its grip upon our region,
offering little in bird numbers attested to the
tough birding efforts of today's Brooklyn Bird
Club's "Big Sit" at Butterfly Meadow and afterwards.

However, the spare pickings of the Big Sit, the
first in many years for a BBC outing--
did offered the likes of BLUE-WINGED
WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER and
BLACK THROATED GREEN WARBLERS the
best results. After the Big Sit, both waterthrush
species put in shows as well a  RUSTY BLACKBIRD
either at the Vale of Cashmere pool or back shore
of Lower and Upper Pools.

There were though very good reports of rare
MARSH WREN at West Island, a very shy
PROTHONOTARY WARBLER offering sweet music at the
Pagoda, and ORCHARD ORIOLE to boot according to
Ed Crowne.

In the high quality department, WORMEATING WARBLER  and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO are seen, in Ricks Place and a sweetgum overlooking Ambergill Pool , respectively ( RJett)

Sandpipers are seen at the mudflat
inside the cofferdam, both uncommon
SOLITARY and common SPOTTED. But it is believed
the cofferdam will be coming down this
week as work finished on the construction
shore line phase.

The end of the week does look good as a
warming trend is forecasted.
Take some days off if the weather
people say so....
