It was really cold and blustery out there.
Despite bone chilling temperatures, it was quite delightful watching the swirling snowflakes upon the lake ice, little whirlpools of action that confronted a small tight flock of wind battered Ring-billed Gulls, the blustery blown snowflakes escaping through the little spaces among the gulls' bodies. There was some open water but little diversity regarding waterfowl. But I didn't care, I simply wanted to get out and enjoy the wintry season .
Looking up as I walked along Well Drive, I could see the blurry sun , trying to peek through the fog like thin cloud cover and wind blown light falling snow.I remembered a favorite art exhibit years ago held at the Brooklyn Museum, called Impressionism: Effects of Snow;the scene of the fading yet noticeable disk like sun reminded me of several paintings with that effect. I think Monet did that alot and also Camille Passarro, two winter highly experienced painters.
Oh, before getting away from the main topic, birds were pretty hunkered down, except at the feeders , whose seeds are disappearing fast. With those hungry birds trying to survive, battling the extreme cold that saps their metabolism drastically, I have to get them refilled asap.
Stay warm.
