January 4th Prospect

Highlight prior to noon was a PEREGRINE FALCON preying upon Ring-billed Gulls near the ice surface at Prospect Lake near the West Island shelter. The falcon kept doing circuits above the flock that was scattering and dispersing , individual birds trying hard to avoid being caught. It was amazing to watch. I am not sure I saw an unlucky gull caught since I had to move on .

Also of note was good feeder bird diversity, fourteen species birds at the feeders , all or most appearing about the same time . A pretty active scene. ( of course , it helps to refill the feeders )
