Red Hook (North Brooklyn) 1/16 waterfowl count

During the first day of the waterfowl count week, a LESSER BLACKED-BACKED GULL was discovered on the brick debris /rubble field (with heavy construction equipment) on the north side of IKEA superstore. While resting with the Ring-billed Gull flock, a PEREGRINE FALCON swooped in and flushed all the gulls, and after the dispersal, the Peregrine perched on a tall wooden electric/telephone pole at the end of that rubble field opposite Beard Street; the falcon perched on the pole for a good 1/2 hour. The Lesser Blacked-backed Gull fled to a wood piling in the water under a dilapidated metal wharf structure, but eventually rejoined the Ring-billed gull flock on a severed dilapidated pier closer to Ikea. It's likely the same bird seen there from last winter.
