October 2nd, A pretty good day for real Fall stuff: various reports

Activity after the rain storm system and following northwest winds behind it produced richly. Wildflower /weedy areas at forest margins and edges showed much bird activity ( I assume everywhere besides Prospect, Greenwood etc) ; and the Breeze Hill dirt mounds harbored a few notable species where I had this morning White-crowned Sparrow , Lincoln Sparrow and Indigo Bunting among my best sightings.See also Purple Finches reported By Rob Bate by the Maryland Monument.

But most intriguing was a circling shorebird that tried to land on Center Drive west T flooded section along the horse trail while I was working supervising weekend woodland volunteers. Based on body size, darkish wings ( no wing stripe)  and brownish uppers , it possibly might have either been Pectorals Sandpiper or Wilson's Snipe (most likely). But there were way too many people on the drives... Too bad...But one identified shorebird seen later was Solitary Sandpiper by me and Rob Bate , on the black plastic by the rink cove.

Greenwood Cemetery was reported highly bird active per Rob Jett ..see his report...Prospect Lake sees an increase in Northern Shovelers (54)
