I checked the records and was astounded to learn that last night's Horned Grebe (HOGR) was only the NINTH record for Prospect.. The last time HOGR appeared on Prospect Lake was a bird that hung out 3/14/2001-3/27/2001 ( obviously more than 4 years ago I thought..time flies). There was a previous bird a few weeks before that 3/2- 3/4 2001.
Here are the rest of the records from the past years seen:
1939--5 days in early March
1943
1952 ( 2 birds ,1 in April, 1 in November)
1963
1999
2001 ( 2 birds)
Pretty exciting stuff, even for "common" species.
