Prospect November 22nd

A lingering  AMERICAN REDSTART is trying to bump aside Pine Siskins (reported at the Nethermead Bridge) as a newsworthy item. The late out of season warbler in its third day at the Wellhouse would be considered common in migration but in November a very worthy sighting if you like these particular date records.

Rob Bate reported the Redstart with a text message to me at 1:53. Though not overly cooperative most part of the day, it was tame enough then when it showed. Patience and constant vigilance to the spot if you pursue this warbler.

On other matters, a few raptors came through, some adult birds. While I was coming along the East Drive ( by the zoo), an adult COOPERS HAWK flew up to a east Midwood Oak tree. Later, an adult SHARP-SHINNED HAWK perched after cross meadow flight unto the Black Locust in the west Nethermead. The MERLIN coontinues its same throne it chose , the London Plane Tree at the southwest ballfields. But I know as with all Merlins, they all think on a different plane from other raptor species with its haughty attitude. ( But I got to love that Merlin!  Fearless!)
