Veterans Day November 11th Prospect, quick note from GWC;possible Philadelphia Vireo sighting

A notable morning in Prospect Park regarding PINE SISKIN , 11 birds seen in two separate locales. A small flock of 7 feeding in the sweetgum trees , along with American Goldfinches, overshadowing the Carousel. Later, 4 more Pine Siskin seen drinking water at the back shore of the Binnen Pool.

Regarding sparrows, a lone AMERICAN TREE SPARROW with Songs, 2 Swamps and Whitethroateds along the dirt trail at the south edge of the Peninsula meadow. FOX SPARROW numbering four together at the back of the wildflower meadow ( next to Upper Pool), drinking from a small puddle on black plastic covering mugwort. And right behind me as I watched the Fox Sparrows, a wary MERLIN perched in the tall elm in that well known grove.

Other notes: Winter Wren, Brown Creeper, 2 Pied-billed Grebe,Cooper's Hawk over Prospect Lake, where 170 Ruddy and 200+ Northern Shoveler makes one Bufflehead drake feel vastly outnumbered.

A text just received  [2:34] from Rob Jett alerts this blogster that 13 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS are residing at Greenwood Cemetery (GWC) , at the moment.... A good place for this species that prefers open woods and lawns. Must be blue heaven there now....

A note from Kathy Toomey ,who was birding with Emily Goldstein. On Breeze Hill, in shrubs opposite the dirt mounds, they reported Philadelphia Vireo. This would be a extreme late record if its the same bird seen several weeks ago. Verification would be necessary so the report on this blog would serve notice for others to seek it out and verify.
