Prospect April 4th, some year's firsts, BBrPark ,GWC reports

On site , pruning some young Swamp White Oaks, I happened to see flying over NORTHERN HARRIER early this morning and first of year bird. About 20 minutes later, an OSPREY I just happen to catch seeing , flying near 3 Arches Bridge. And with the usual RED-TAILED HAWK, I scored my triple hat trick for raptors in less than an hour from the same work site.I think there is great potential at this spot along the edge of the south Nethermead.
( later sighting early afternoon, Turkey Vulture over the Nethermead)

Also, for first of year was Rob Bate's HERMIT THRUSH, a bird seen in the Lullwater.

And from a co-worker report, 8 Wood Ducks seen Saturday on the south side of the Terrace Bridge.

Lists to follow later.

New Spring Arrivals.

Two Eastern Phoebe were actively hawking bugs around the salt marsh today.

Down on the ruins of Pier Four I spotted my first Laughing Gull of the year.

Another possible arrival looks to be in progress in the middle pool of the salt

marsh. On April 1, I noticed a drake black duck and hen Mallard hanging out

together. They were still there today, squatting on the bank very close each

other. I've seen plenty of the black duck/Mallard hybrids, but never one "in the

works," so to speak. Also, if they do nest, will they be the first breeders on

Pier One?
